Bath bombs, Tub Soaks, Scented Salts

It's not secret I have always loved baths. When I was little I would bath for hours. Seriously. I would could spend the entire afternoon day dreaming in the tub- I think my mom loved it (but definitely not the soaked bathroom floor- #youknowyouthoughtyouwereamermaidtoo).

To make the most of bath time now I love all of these homemade treats.

 Bath Bombs

 Ingredients

  • 2 cups baking soda
  • 3/4 cup citric acid
  • 1-2 TBSP Epsom salts
  • 2 TBSP Arrowroot Powder (or if you can't find it just use corn starch)
  • 1.5 TBSP soft oil (grape seed, sunflower, melted coconut oil etc)
  • 2 TBSP melted cocoa butter (or heavy oil like extra virgin olive oil)
  • 30 ish drops of your favorite scent (I like to use essential oils, and in that case I've found 30 drops is too much as the oil is so pure and strong)
  • A few TSP of water or a squeeze bottle with water in it (like the one's used to spritz flowers)

 Method

Step 1: Put all ingredients up to and including arrowroot powder in a larger bowl, then mix, mix, mix
Step 2: Add the essential oil, then mix, mix, mix
Step 3: Add 1 TSP of water at a time (or if you have a water sprayer do one spritz at a time) until the contents of the bowl feels like wet sand
Step 4: Push the mixture firmly into molds, flip on to a cookie sheet lined with wax paper and allow to dry for a few hours before storing.
I like to wrap my bombs in parchment paper (you could use tissue paper too) and tie with a ribbon if I am giving them as gifts.

To use just throw it in the tub :)

Tub Soaks

Ingredients

  • Epsom salts
  • Oatmeal
  • Chamomile Flower (dried- if you can't find it just use chamomile tea)
  • Lavender, Mint, Calendula (pretty much any dried flower you like... and calendula flower is just dried marigold flower, if you garden this is easy to grow yourself, if not it is one of the most inexpensive dried flowers to purchase)
  • Tea bags (you can find some at Micheal, or at the local health food store. Try to get ones as big as possible)
Method

Step 1: Fill the bottom of the tea bag with Epsom salts- maybe 2 TBSP
Step 2: Add the oatmeal and flowers to just above half of the bag (remember that when these get wet they grow)
Step 3: Iron or draw string the tea bag such

To use place in a very hot tub for 20 mins before getting in. I usually run the tub too hot when I use these so it isn't cold when it's time to relax.

The tub soak pictured has Epsom salts, oatmeal flakes, chamomile and candula (it's cold and dry here so I wanted it to moisturize and calm).

Scented Salts

Ingredients
  • Epsom salts
  • Essential oil
  • Dried flowers/ oatmeal
  • Jars (hellllloooo Dollarama)
Method

Step 1: In a large bowl mix Epsom salts with essential oil until scented
Step 2: Layer Epsom salts, dried flowers, oatmeal or whatever you chose to use in the jar

Since this one has the potential to be really messy I bought a reusable mesh baggie (I think I got it at Dollarama but I know you can get something like this at Sobey's in the butchers section) that I spoon a few TBSP into before putting it in the tub.

The pictured Scented Salts have lavender essential oil, oatmeal, chamomile flower, and Epsom salts.

Happy Soaking!
